Hang in there. On Wednesday March 17th, the Milwaukee Wave will host an excusive meeting for local marketing professionals prior to its 10:00 am game against the Rockford Rampage. Attendees will have the chance to meet with Weaver both after the meeting and during the Wave game, as well as network with each other and share their thoughts regarding.

“If you feel challenged in managing and keeping up with all of the social media options that are out there, this is the meeting for you,” said Katie Felten, president MKE Live. “This isn’t for people who want to learn how to use a particular element of social media. This is for the pros that are out there who really understand social media and want to manipulate these tools into successful, measurable results.”

The meeting will take place at 9:00 am in the media room of the US Cellular Arena. Only 40 spaces are available. This FREE event includes a “Party Suite” ticket to the game. Snacks and a cash bar will also be available within the suite.

UW-Whitewater to host social media conference on privacy and transparency

On Tuesday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m., industry professionals will host “What Happens in Vegas stays on Facebook,” in Winther Hall, Room 2001, at the UW-Whitewater campus.
The discussion will be led by Katie Felten, president of MKELive, and Emily Lenard, associate director, of Wired Wisconsin.
They will discuss how to avoid pitfalls on popular social media tools like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn that could affect individuals when they are searching for employment or preservation of a person’s reputation in general.
“(Wired Wisconsin is) dedicated to advancing technology policies that foster innovation and development, job creation, and economic growth as well as educating people on technology issues that affect businesses,” Lenard said. “This presentation mimicks a similar presentation I did that really gets students thinking about the fact that not only what they do but also what their friends do on social media sites reflects on their images and it’s really about encouraging everyone to be mindful.”
According to Lenard, the seminar will discuss from a student standpoint what future employers will be able to see, but will also address how the way we communicate from an academic and a professional standpoint has changed.
“Ideally we’d like to get people thinking, and teach them about the tools out there for them and their employers to monitor their public perception,” Lenard said. “We always want them to be keeping an eye to the future, and what their actions now could mean in regards to that.”
Online perceptions make up a huge portion of who somebody is these days, Lenard said.
“It’s that online perception that almost always makes the first impression on people and we want to make sure that an individual’s online perception really matches up to who they really are,” she said.
The seminar is free and open to the public. Anyone currently looking for a job or working for a professional organization is encouraged to attend. The discussion will dispel rumors about privacy settings, and pay services for transparency in social media.

MKELive Will “Ignite” Business Passion and Creativity for March LinkedIn-Milwaukee Event

(MILWAUKEE, WI) This is the big one.

On Monday, March 1st, MKELive and LinkedIn-Milwaukee will literally link thousands of entrepreneurs, technologists, “do-it-yourselfers,” creative professionals, and enthusiastic knowledge-seekers from around the world for an evening that is a unique blend of networking, information, and fun.

LinkedIn-Milwaukee will participate in Global Ignite Week (March 1-5, 2010), when more than 50 Ignite meetings will take place in cities around the world. Ignite meetings are comprised of talks that are exactly five minutes long, where presenters share their personal and professional passions that fit within the Ignite motto: “Enlighten us, but make it quick.”

Like other meetings throughout the week, LinkedIn-Milwaukee’s Ignite will stream live video during the event. Those videos will be archived on the new Ignite video site that is being launched in conjunction with the week-long event. At least 500 five-minute session videos will be available on the new site when it debuts.

“This is an opportunity for local business professionals to gain different entrepreneurial perspectives from around the nation and around the world,” said Katie Felten, president MKE Live. “People who attend will have the chance to see how business owners from different regions and cultures approach and share the same dream of owning successful businesses.”

Started by Brady Forrest, Technology Evangelist for O’Reilly Media, and Bre Pettis of Etsy.com, formerly of MAKE Magazine, Ignite was inspired by Pecha Kucha Nights, where speakers are given 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds, giving each speaker 6 minutes and 40 seconds of fame. The first Ignite took place in Seattle in 2006, and since then the event has become an international phenomenon, with gatherings in Helsinki, Finland; Paris, France; New York, New York; and many other locations.

The March MKELive LinkedIn-Milwaukee event will be held on Monday, March 1st from 5:30-8:30 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Wauwatosa (located at 10499 Innovation Drive, Wauwatosa, WI 53226). The registration fee for walk-up attendees is $15. Attendees that pre-register at www.mkelive.com will only be charged $10.

MKELive Guarantees Warm Temperatures and New Contacts in February: LinkedIn Live-Milwaukee to be held at “The Domes”

(MILWAUKEE, WI) MKELive will provide local business professionals with a break from the cold when it hosts the February meeting of LinkedIn Live-Milwaukee at the iconic Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes).

A popular destination for generations of Milwaukeeans, this unique facility always sparks conversation. It makes networking easier, more fun and more productive.

In addition to the tropical setting, LinkedIn Live-Milwaukee will have the opportunity to learn from the area’s most recognized Twitter experts, Michelle D’Attilio, Jeanette Pham of Corporate Identity Solutions. The hosts of many successful local “tweetups,” D’Attillo and Pham will discuss how Twitter has quickly become a legitimate and accepted professional marketing vehicle, as well as provide tips and assistance in how small businesses can use it effectively.

“If anybody still questions the validity of Twitter, you only need to look at how it has been used to quickly raise millions of dollars in relief for the earthquake victims in Haiti,” said Katie Felten, president of MKELive. “We’re thrilled to have two recognized experts come in and teach our guests how Twitter can be used to communicate messages and, at the same time, build brands.”

MKELive will also donate half of all revenue from this event to the relief effort for earthquake victims in Haiti.
