Making Sense of Social Media at a Soccer Game

(MILWAUKEE, WI) If you are struggling with managing your many social media accounts, than this Milwaukee Wave game is for you.

Hang in there. On Wednesday March 17th, the Milwaukee Wave will host an excusive meeting for local marketing professionals prior to its 10:00 am game against the Rockford Rampage. The meeting will feature the expertise of Jason Weaver, a nationally recognized social media expert and the founder of Sway, a social media company based in Madison.

Weaver will discuss different user-friendly strategies and tools available to marketing professionals that allow them to efficiently manage the ever-expanding options associated with social media. Attendees will have the chance to meet with Weaver both after the meeting and during the Wave game, as well as network with each other and share their thoughts regarding.

“If you feel challenged in managing and keeping up with all of the social media options that are out there, this is the meeting for you,” said Katie Felten, president MKE Live. “This isn’t for people who want to learn how to use a particular element of social media. This is for the pros that are out there who really understand social media and want to manipulate these tools into successful, measurable results.”

The meeting will take place at 9:00 am in the media room of the US Cellular Arena. Only 40 spaces are available. This FREE event includes a “Party Suite” ticket to the game. Snacks and a cash bar will also be available within the suite.

UW-Whitewater to host social media conference on privacy and transparency

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

On Tuesday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m., industry professionals will host “What Happens in Vegas stays on Facebook,” in Winther Hall, Room 2001, at the UW-Whitewater campus.
The discussion will be led by Katie Felten, president of MKELive, and Emily Lenard, associate director, of Wired Wisconsin.
They will discuss how to avoid pitfalls on popular social media tools like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn that could affect individuals when they are searching for employment or preservation of a person’s reputation in general.
“(Wired Wisconsin is) dedicated to advancing technology policies that foster innovation and development, job creation, and economic growth as well as educating people on technology issues that affect businesses,” Lenard said. “This presentation mimicks a similar presentation I did that really gets students thinking about the fact that not only what they do but also what their friends do on social media sites reflects on their images and it’s really about encouraging everyone to be mindful.”
According to Lenard, the seminar will discuss from a student standpoint what future employers will be able to see, but will also address how the way we communicate from an academic and a professional standpoint has changed.
“Ideally we’d like to get people thinking, and teach them about the tools out there for them and their employers to monitor their public perception,” Lenard said. “We always want them to be keeping an eye to the future, and what their actions now could mean in regards to that.”
Online perceptions make up a huge portion of who somebody is these days, Lenard said.
“It’s that online perception that almost always makes the first impression on people and we want to make sure that an individual’s online perception really matches up to who they really are,” she said.
The seminar is free and open to the public. Anyone currently looking for a job or working for a professional organization is encouraged to attend. The discussion will dispel rumors about privacy settings, and pay services for transparency in social media.
